In mid 1988, Toyota Australia released the Supra turbo, nearly 18 months after the initial release of the non turbo variant. The early Turbo models sported the Square engine insulator mounts with steel engine mounting brackets, identical to those used on the non turbo Supras.

In mid 1989, the engine mounts and the engine insulators where changed to the Alloy mounting units and round insulators, this is now obvious for the planned engine update in Japan, which occurred at the start of 1990. This was designated the JZA70.
